Named after the official state bird of Maryland, the Baltimore Orioles have had a long list of great players that enjoyed very successful years playing for the birds. Frank Robinson won the triple crown in 1966 as the O's swept the Dodgers in the World Series. In 1970 they were led by league MVP Boog Powell and beat the Bid Red Machine (Cincinnati Reds) in the World Series. They won the World Series again in 1983 against the Phillies capping off a year in which Cal Ripken Jr. won the AL MVP and Jim Palmer's final major league victory came in relief in Game 3 of the series against Philadelphia. in 1992 Oriole Park at Camden Yards became the new home of the Orioles and sparked a move around baseball with other teams creating retro-themed parks.
