1984 is known in baseball as "the Year of the Tiger". That year the Tigers lead the division from wire-to-wire, going 35 - 5 in their first 40 games and setting a franchise record with 104 regular season wins. After sweeping the Royals in the ALCS, the Tigers took it to the Padres in 5 games behind strong pitching performances by Jack Morris and Series MVP Alan Trammell. This also made Sparky Anderson the first manager to win titles in both leagues. In all the Tigers have 4 championships and 11 AL pennants.
